NON-FUNCTIONING ADENOMAS
Non-functioning adenomas, are tumours of the pituitary gland that do not secrete hormones.
What are non-functioning adenomas?
Non-functioning adenomas are those that do not secrete hormones. They are the second most common adenomas (28%) and can cause:
- Asymptomatic
- Hormonal deficiencies (hypopituitarism). The most common clinical deficiency is that of gonadotropins leading to hypogonadism: menstrual abnormalities in women, erectile dysfunction in men and infertility.
- visual disturbances (diplopia, bitemporal hemianopsia)
- neurological symptoms (headache)
