What are non-functioning adenomas?

Non-functioning adenomas are those that do not secrete hormones. They are the second most common adenomas (28%) and can cause:

  • Asymptomatic
  • Hormonal deficiencies (hypopituitarism). The most common clinical deficiency is that of gonadotropins leading to hypogonadism: menstrual abnormalities in women, erectile dysfunction in men and infertility.
  • visual disturbances (diplopia, bitemporal hemianopsia)
  • neurological symptoms (headache)
